One of the craziest red cards we have seen was given last week to a Hertfordshire player in the lower tier of English football recently.

Sanchez Watt irrationally kicked the ball away when the First Official gave a decision in the other teams favour. For his descent, the Ref called him over for a mandatory yellow card. Part of the process of booking a player being consists of a firm talking to from the Ref also, the Footballers name going down in ‘the book.’

Following standard procedure, the Referee called Sanchez Watt over and asked for his name. Hertfordshire Winger replied ‘Watt’ and the official repeated the question, as did Sanchez Watt with his answer. This happened a few times until Watt then received a red card for the further descent.

Confusion spread through the stands and some players were baffled to as why their teammate had been sent off.  The ref misinterpreted Sanchez’s surname for arrogance and he believed that the player was just shouting ‘what’ however, this was all cleared up when the clubs Skipper explained to the Referee he was mistaken and that the lads’ name is actually Watt. The red card was rescinded but amongst all the joking afterwards, he still got that yellow.
