Viking Clap
Remember the Icelandic ‘Viking Clap’ from the Euro’s in 2016? Well, EA Sports certainly do as they add the celebration to the new World Cup mode in Fifa 18. The cultured clap has been round for hundreds of years and the Icelandic love demonstrating it during international competition.
Now that the World Cup is only around the corner, it won’t be long until we see the Viking Clap in Russia. In Group D alongside Iceland are World Cup runners up, Argentina, Nigeria and Croatia. It will prove to be a challenging task advancing from the Group Stage. Nonetheless, at the Euro’s in France, Iceland performed exceptionally.
After being undefeated in the Group Stage it saw them progress as second in the group. Their first knock out match was verse an ageing England squad who were still outright favourites. Which is why everyone was shocked when England were on the back end of a 2-1 defeat. Despite Rooney’s opening goal in the first five minutes, it wasn’t enough as Iceland gained the advantage before half time.
After the memorable win over England, France would be the side that stood in their way. The class of the French was too much for Iceland as they were knocked out in the Quarter Finals after a 5-2 loss. Hopefully for Football we will see the Viking Clap this Summer, if we are fortunate enough to, I can’t imagine it will be on display past the Group Stage.
