Port Vales Tom Pope Scores After John Stones Tweet
Tom Pope scored for Port Vale against Man City on Saturday, after his tweet about John Stones went viral before the game
This weekend was the third round of the FA Cup. It gave us some big games in Wolves vs Man United, Liverpool vs Everton and Arsenal vs Leeds. Another game people were looking forward to and in particular, Tom Pope was Man City vs Port Vale.
The striker tweeted back in June after an England game how he would score 40 a season playing against Stones. Now, this is a big claim for a striker who’s highest level is League One and Stones is a £50 million centre back. So when the draw came out for the two to be playing each other, twitter went into meltdown.
After the draw, he tweeted again saying that he thought Stones had improved dramatically and he’s the best centre half in the world. This was probably a lie and just to cover his back…
Just watched the highlights of the England game! I know I’m a league 2 player, I know he plays for England, I know he’s on £150k a week, I know he’s a million times better player than me but I’d love to play against John Stones every week! I’d get 40 a season! #soft #weakaspiss

The two sides met on Saturday and both Stones and Pope were starting. City played a strong side with both Silvas, Aguero, Gundogen and Foden starting.
The hosts got off to a good start when Zinchenko opened the scoring after his shot took a slight deflection. Then the moment everyone had been waiting for bar Stones, Pope’s goal. A good bit of team play saw the ball played out wide. Pope was the only Port Vale player in the box. The ball was sent in a Pope headed in fantastically into the bottom left corner. He and the 8,000 Port Vale fans went wild.
Unfortunately, this didn’t last long when Aguero made it 2-1 seven minutes later. It looks like Stones had got one back himself but it was deflected on the line by Harwood-Bellis to make it 3-1. The game finished 4-1 with Foden getting the last goal.
After the game, the Port Vale players were invited into the changing rooms to meet the Man City players. The hosts were said to be winding up Stones who didn’t take it well. He apparently shook hands with Pope but didn’t chat with him.
Man City are comfortably through to the next round of the competition. They are the favourites with Betway at 5/2 with Liverpool behind at 9/2. This is because Klopp isn’t too keen on the competition and wants to focus on the Premier League and Champions League.
