Manchester United has officially appointed Solskjaer as the permanent manager at Old Trafford!

United got off to their worst ever start to a season this year. In 24 games they had only won 10 of them. They were struggling to score goals as well. Over the 24 games, United had scored just two more goals than they had conceded. After losing to Liverpool in December the board deemed it was enough and sacked Jose Mourinho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was brought in on ‘loan’ from Molde as the interim manager. The idea is that the board would use the time between then and the end of the season to find the right man. However, the results that came after his appointment meant Solskjaer practically made the decision for them.

He became the first manager at Man United to win their first six league games in charge. Beating a record that was previously held by club legend Sir Matt Busby. United went on to win 11 out of 13 league games since he took over. He only lost once and that was away to Arsenal. This run of results saw United close in on top four. When OGS took over they were 11 points behind fourth, now they find themselves only two points behind.

It wasn’t only their league form that was improved. United drew Arsenal and Chelsea away in the FA Cup. Both games they won away convincingly, after some fantastic tactical preparation from the manager. Unfortunately, though United were knocked out of the FA Cup to Wolves the game after.

United Champions League form has also improved. In the group stages, they struggled, only winning three of their games. They made it to the round of 16 where they faced a good PSG side. But with the clubs current form United fans were quietly confident.

The first leg was at home and it didn’t go as planned. United lost the game 2-0 and the tie looked practically over. But Solskjaer never thought this. His side went away to Paris and got him his most impressive win to date. They beat PSG 3-1 and progressed through on away goals. It was a fantastic game considering they had a lot of injuries and suspensions to the squad.

Due to a lack of players, Solskjaer included Chong and Greenwood in his squad for the game against PSG. Both played in the game adding to his list of two other academy players to feature under his spell as manager. The four academy players is four more than Mourinho played in the 18/19 season.

All this together meant that Ed Woodward had no choice but to give him the job on a permanent basis. He signed a three-year contract and will be hoping for many more years after!

United’s next game in charge is against Watford at home in the league. OGS will be hoping for three points and to able to close the gap on the top four. Bet365 have United priced at 5/4 to get in the top four and play in the Champions League next year.

There next big game is against Barcelona in the Champions League quarterfinals. To qualify from this game is 3/1 on Bet365. To go all the way and win the tournament for a fourth time is 20/1!
