In the Summer of 2016, Harry Maguire promised revenge on the Swedish following a purchase from Ikea. The Centre-Half spent a stressful four hours manteling the small construction together until he took to Twitter to rant. Who would have thought two years later he would open the scoring v Sweden in the Quarter-Final. Southgate’s side went onto secure a 2-0 win as England grasped a place in their first Semi-Final since 1990.
Harry Maguire was playing in the Championship for Hull only two seasons ago. The defender has taken a huge leap in his career since the World Cup began, he has been a solid unit for his team. When he netted his header v Sweden, well-deserved praise built up over the tournament all flooded the 25-year-old way. Maguire & England now face Croatia in the Semi’s which will prove to be the biggest task of their tournament.
Manager and squad both look relaxed ahead of the biggest England match of a generation. England is capable of winning the World Cup, but it feels like for fans anything from here on out is a bonus. The lack of pressure is working in England’s favour and I can’t see their Cup run ending v Croatia. Fans back home are going ape, understandably. A small army of supporters took over an Ikea as the staff were left helpless.
