Goalkeeping injuries are very rare and most of the time clubs with have suitable backups, but what if you’ve sold you second keeper and then get two more injured in one week!
Liverpool finished the transfer window with selling Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to Club Brugge after six-year in Merseyside. As a result, Liverpool were then in the market for a second choice keeper. They signed ex-West Ham goalkeeper Adrian for free as their backup, a well-experienced replacement!
When signed, Adrian wasn’t expected to feature much for the club with them having a world-class keeper in Alisson. He had a fantastic debut season in England. He kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League with 21 and helped guide Liverpool to their sixth Champions Leauge trophy.
Last Friday Alisson started in goal for Liverpool but in the first half, disaster struck. He played a simple pass out from his six-yard box but fell over clutching his calf. Alisson was forced to come off meaning Adrian had to make his Liverpool debut a lot sooner than expected.

With Alisson now out it meant Adrian would have to start the Super Cup on Wednesday. This would be an amazing turn around for the Spanish goalkeeper. His last start was back in January in the FA Cup for West Ham vs Wimbledon. Since then he had been released and was a free agent. Within the space of a week, he was now starting a Super Cup match for Liverpool.
Adrian had a good game for Liverpool but it was in the penalty shootout he made himself a hero. He saved the final penalty in order for Liverpool to win the trophy. All the players ran over to congratulate him in what would be one of the best moments in his career. However, Klopp has now revealed that it was this moment thinks took a turn for the worst. A fan ran on to the pitch to join in the celebrations but ended up slide tackling Adrian, which has now injured him.
The Spanish goalkeeper is believed to be a doubt for tomorrows match vs Southampton. Adrian’s ankle is said to be getting better but it is still swollen. Liverpool now have to call on another new signing in 35-year-old Lonergan. The goalkeeper was released last season by Middlesborough and could be in for a huge turn of events like Adrian if he starts tomorrow.
Southampton vs Liverpool
Liverpool are still the favourites going into the game despite their goalkeeping issues. They are priced at 4/9 to win the game with Southampton at 11/2 on Bet365. Liverpool won there last season and will be hoping to make it six points out of six.
Mo Salah played the full 120 minutes on Wednesday but is likely to be involved along with Mane and Firmino. The Egyptian is the favourite to score first at 3/1, with Mane at 15/4 after his brace on Wednesday night.
Last season the league went down to just one point and its safe to say had Alisson not been there then it would have been a bigger gap. Liverpool will need him back ASAP in order to mount a title charge on Man City. Peps side are the favourites on Bet365 to win the league this year at 2/5, with Liverpool at an interesting 3/1.
