Is This The Worst Miss Ever?!

Choupo Moting Miss

PSG missed the chance to wrap the Ligue 1 title up this weekend thanks to a horrendous miss from Choupo-Moting!

At the end of the 2017/18, Eric Choupo-Moting found himself playing football for Stoke City. Unfortunately for him, his side was relegated into the Championship. It seemed as if the Cameroon international was going to have to help his side climb back into the Premier League.

For a player who has played most of his career in the Bundesliga, this probably wasn’t ideal. However, after only scoring five goals in thirty games it appeared as though Choupo-Moting couldn’t complain. Out of nowhere though the current Ligue 1 champions and one of the richest clubs in the world PSG signed him on a free.

If ever there was a get out of jail free card this was it. Choupo-Moting now found himself playing with some of the worlds best players and in the Champions League after spending a season playing with Charlie Adam…

PSG fans were probably the ones most confused. In the previous window, they had broken the transfer record signing Neymar. Not only that but they had also agreed on a deal to sign Mbappe. So when Choupo-Moting was their latest attacking signing questions were raised.

The miss…

Fast forward eight months a Choupo-Moting is actually getting some playing time at the League 1 leaders. He has played 18 times in the league and scored three times. He has also featured in the Champions League four times but failed to score.

Tomas Tuchel was giving him chances to play but goals were proving hard to come by. His latest appearance was a rare start in the league with the manager choosing to rest Mbappe. The game got off to a great start for the Cameroon striker, he managed to open the scoring in the 13th minute. Beating his defender at the front post to turn in the cross to get PSG off to a great start.

Strasbourg then went on an equalised 13 minutes later.

Then came the miss! Christopher Nkunkus chipped the ball over the keeper and it was going in. The Strasbourg defender tried to stop it but missed. It appeared as though Choupo-Moting wanted to help the visitors and stop the goal. As the ball was crossing the line he appeared to try and tap it in but put his foot in front of the ball. This stopped the ball on the line and Strasbourg managed to clear.

No one is quite sure was the striker was trying to do here. This was the definition of harder to miss that score. The miss ended up costing his side the win as they went on to draw 2-2. If they had won then they would have won the league. However, it doesn’t really matter as they are currently 20 points clear of Lyon in second.
