From Smalling To Smalldini

After his career seemed to be going on a downward spiral, a move to Roma on loan has turned Chris Smalling to prime Smalldini!

Last season wasn’t one that will live long in the memory of Chris Smalling. At a time when Man United were crying out for somehow to take control of the back four, Smalling just couldn’t seem to do it. The English centre half was given many a chance to do so but could never find his form of a few seasons ago.

Fast forward to this year and he got himself a loan move to Roma. This decision was questioned, as even though he may not be the best centre half around, surely he’s better than Phil Jones…?

Anyway, Smalling went to Roma and many United fans thought that that was his career at Old Trafford finished with. However, they could all be wrong is Smalling carries on the form he is in.

On Sunday night he put in one of the performances of his life as Roma beat Brescia 3-0. Smalling opened to scoring with a header from a corner after 49 minutes. He then played a huge part in his sides next two goals assisting both! If this wasn’t enough, he even managed to keep a clean sheet. This is exactly the type of defender Man United are looking for, especially after drawing 3-3 with Sheffield United, no thanks to Phil Jones.

After this brilliant display, it has put Smalling on two goals and two assists for the season. Maybe he could even do a better job than Jesse Lingard for his parent club!

Roma are now sitting fifth in the table and their main aim will be to get in the top four this season. For them to win the league is a big ask and they are currently priced at 125/1 on PaddyPower. Top four seems far more achievable and realistic bet at 7/5!
