Nature called for Eric Dier during his sides win over Chelsea in the last 16 of the EFL Cup last night

Spurs hosted Chelsea last night in the EFL Cup, with the winners going through to the quarter-finals of the competition. Chelsea were the favourites going into this one. Spurs were without Son and had a very busy schedule, one which Mourinho said he would be resting players for.

Chelsea got off to a great start with new striker Timo Werner getting his first goal for the club. Spurs’ new signing Sergio Reguilón made a mistake giving the ball away and was then put sold by Azpilicueta. The Chelsea defender found Werner on the edge of the box who finished it off fantastically into the bottom right corner.

The game wasn’t the most exciting game between these two sides that we’ve seen over the years and chances were few and far between.

However, Chelsea could have wrapped up the game with 15 minutes to go. Hudson-Odio was through on goal and should have played in Abraham to make ut 2-0. Mourinho could be seen walking down the tunnel in frustration after this and it was actually to find 0ut where Eric Dier had gone. The defender had run off to go to the toilet and as a result, nearly cost his side a goal. However, when nature calls there’s not a lot you can do!

Thankfully, this didn’t cost his side and they scored five minutes later. A ball in from Reguilón found Lamela at the back post who slotted it past Chelsea’s new keeper Mendy. The game went to penalties and Spurs came out 5-4 winners with Dier scoring his and Mount missing the decisive one.

EFL Cup Odds

Man City are still the favourites for the EFL despite not being in the quarter-finals yet. They are priced at 5/2 to win the competition, having won it the last three years. They are playing against Burnley tonight and surely their odds will drop if they get through tonight.

Spurs are just behind them in the odds at 9/2 and could be a great bet. Mourinho’s side aren’t in Europe this season, so will be able to prioritise this competition. They will be desperate to win a trophy and by the time the quarters comes around Son and Bale will be back fit.

At 5/1 is Liverpool. They still need to beat Arsenal to book their place in the quarter-finals and this will be tougher than Monday night’s game due to Klopp resting players. He has made it no secret he won’t prioritise this competition over any others. However, if they get through, he may start taking it more seriously at its still a trophy they could win.

Man United are another good bet at 7/1. They haven’t won a trophy for three seasons and this is one they could win. United need to get back to winning ways and the EFL Cup could be the perfect opportunity to do so.

An outsider we like the look of is Everton priced at 9/1. It has been 25 years since Everton last won a trophy and with their new squad and manager, this could all change. This a competition they will definitely look to go far in, they just have to get past West Ham tonight first. If they play as they have been in the Premier League, there’s no reason they can’t get a cup run together!
