Bad To Worse For Man United

Solskjaer Feature United

Man United are set to miss key players this weekend for their huge clash against top of the league and high flying Liverpool!

It’s safe to say this hasn’t been the best start to the season for Man United. In fact its been their worst in 30 years! In their opening eight games, Solksjaer’s side has managed just two wins and currently sit 12th in the table.

Their last game before the international break ended in a 1-0 loss to Newcastle. United need to start getting some points on the board if they want any chance of getting in the top four this season. They are currently priced at 4/1 to get there, with Leicester ahead of them at 3/1! Up next for them is Liverpool at home.

This could be seen either way as the best or worst game possible. However, things haven’t exactly gone Man United’s way in the build-up to the game. They have been plagued with injuries all season and now two have come in the form of De Gea and Pogba.

Last season wasn’t De Gea’s best, but he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world and Man United could definitely do with him to stop Liverpool’s world-class attack! Pogba is another one who draws much debate. He may go missing in matches but there is no denying his ability. He can produce something out of nothing, which is exactly what Man United may need this weekend!

The last time the two sides met, Liverpool came out on top 3-1. This game turned out to be Mourinho’s last game in charge, and the same could well happen to Solskjaer this weekend with the pressure mounting!

Man United will field a much-changed side to the one that started at Anfield last year. Shaw, Lingard, Bailly and Dalot will all miss the game due to injury whilst Sanchez and Lukaku have left the club. New signings Maguire, the worlds most expensive defender, and James are expected to start whilst Wan-Bissaka is a maybe due to illness.

It is in front of the goal where Man United have struggled. Rashford went 12 games without in goal in open play before scoring this week for England. Due to Martial being out injured, Rashford has had to lead the line and hasn’t done so well. He is 50/1 on Betfred to finish top scorer with Mane (10/1) and Salah (6/1) all at much better odds.

A bonus though for Man United this season is how solid they have been at the back. They have only conceded eight goals, no team in the top six has conceded less. This shows what an impact Maguire and Wan-Bissaka are having on the defence. Liverpool have been given a defensive boost before Sunday, it looks like Alisson is back from injury.

Man United aren’t looking too good at the moment. Key injuries to players and a lack of good form could make this Sunday afternoon a long one!

Liverpool goes into this game as the firm favourites and have a full-strength squad. They are currently priced at 4/6 and you’d have to be a brave person to back United at 9/2!
