Anything United Can Do, Liverpool Can Do better?

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

After Solskjaers side was smashed 6-1 by Spurs yesterday, Liverpool followed it up with an equally a bad, if not worse display against Aston Villa!

Yesterday was a day that no football fan will forget in a long. To start with United took on Spurs at Old Trafford in which was one the worst displays by the home side in a very long time. They were well and truly beaten by their old manager and the game ended 6-1.

Liverpool fans, along with most footballing fans, took a lot of delight in Man United getting beaten so badly. However, fans of last years Premier League champions should maybe have saved the abuse until after their match!

They were away to Aston Villa in what should have been a fairly routine match and four wins out of four. After nine goals and some comical errors, it was anything but routine for Jurgen Klopp’s side who took a lot of the embarrassment away from Man United!

Aston Villa Run Riot Against Liverpool

We thought we wouldn’t get more goals and entertainment after the United game but up stepped Liverpool and Adrian. The visitors got off to the worst start when the stand-in goalkeeper gave the ball away inside the box allowing for Ollie Watkins to tap it home for an early lead

Watkins then doubled the lead on the 22nd-minute with a fantastic finish into the top right corner after some questionable Liverpool defending once again. Salah pulled one back on the 33rd minute and at this point, we assumed it would be a case of Liverpool coming back to win the game.

Credit though to Villa who smelt blood and went for the kill. McGinn scored two minutes after Salah to restore the two-goal lead and Watkins got his hattrick by the 39th minute. The game was 4-1 at half-time and no one could quite believe it.

After the break, Villa kept going and new boy Barkley scored thanks to a huge deflection. Salah got himself a second but again Dean Smiths side came back and the game finished 7-2 with Grealish adding to his three assists with two goals.

This was an incredible game and one that will be remembered by both sets of fans for a long time. As bad as Liverpool were, Aston Villa were as equally good. This win was their third of the season out of three games and put them into second place.

Aston Villa To Win The League?

Now, this may be a long shot, but if Aston Villa played like this every game then who knows! They are 125/1 to go all the way, whilst Liverpool are still the favourites at 11/10. This was just a huge surprise and maybe a good wake up call for Liverpool that this season won’t as straight forward as the last.

For Villa, their main aim will be to stay up, but they are already priced at 1/40 to do that. However, last season they did only survive by a point and so 17/2 for them to be relegated could be a great outside bet.

Betfair thinks top ten is a realistic aim for Aston Villa. They are at 6/4 and this is a big ask considering they finished 17th last season.
