Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid vs

On Sunday afternoon, Atletico Madrid host city-rivals Real Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in what is the biggest Madrid derby La Liga has seen in recent seasons.

Diego Simeone’s team head into this massive game topping La Liga, five points clear of Barcelona and of course Sunday’s opponents, Real Madrid. Los Rojiblancos seemed set to run away with the Spanish title, only for a slight dip in form that saw the home side win just one of their four league games. However, Atletico bounced back to winning ways last time out by recording a 2-0 win at Villarreal.

Atletico are usually strong on home soil, but they have picked up just one point from their last two league games at the Wanda Metropolitano in the Spanish top-flight. A surprise 2-0 home defeat by Levante in their last home match ended a 22-game unbeaten run on home soil in La Liga.

Los Blancos looked set to close the gap on their rivals at the top of the table before they drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad last time out. The draw ended a four-game winning run for the reigning Spanish champions in La Liga. Zinedine Zidane’s team know that there is now very little room for error this season with bitter-rivals Barcelona level on points with the team from the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid have a good recent away record, as they are now eight matches unbeaten on their travels in the Spanish top-flight, having won their previous three league games on their travels in La Liga.

Team News

Atletico Madrid are expected to be without Jose Gimenez and Yannick Carrasco through injury. However, they will be able to welcome England international Kieran Trippier back after suspension.

Real Madrid could be without Karim Benzema, Eder Militao, Eden Hazard, Daniel Carvajal and Sergio Ramos through injury.

Match Prediction

We are backing Atletico to record a rare derby victory, as the visitors head into this clash without some key figures. It could be a tight game though, so it may not be a goal-fest.

Odds 17/10
