BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Sunday afternoon, Athletic Bilbao host Real Madrid in La Liga at San Mames, with the visitors looking to move one step closer to winning the Spanish top-flight title.
The Basque team have been in decent form of late, which has kept their top-six hopes alive, but barely. A run of three wins from their last four games in La Liga has left Gaizka Garitano’s team four points off the Europa League qualification spots.
Last time out, Los Leones recorded a highly creditable 2-0 win at Valencia.
Athletic have been relatively strong of late at San Mames in La Liga, as they are unbeaten in four outings, having recorded three wins in the process.
Their recent league games on home soil have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine matches.
Zinedine Zidane’s team are now in a great position to win the Spanish top-flight title. Arch-rivals Barcelona have won La Liga in the last two seasons, but Los Blancos are now four points clear of the reigning champions with just five league matches remaining.
A six-game winning run in La Liga has powered their title bid. The visitor’s recent league outings have been tight affairs though, as they have won their last two league matches 1-0 against Espanyol and Getafe.
Real Madrid has a decent recent away record in the Spanish top-flight, having won five of their previous seven league games on their travels.
Athletic look set to be without veteran midfielder Benat Etxebarria through injury.
The visitors could be without attacking midfielder Reinier and full-back Nacho due to injury.
