BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Saturday, struggling Aston Villa host Wolves at Villa Park in a game that could have big implications at the top and bottom of the Premier League.
The Villans head into this Midlands derby in desperate need of a victory. Dean Smith’s team are in the relegation zone due to their inferior goal difference to the teams above them.
A 1-1 draw at Newcastle last time out means they are winless in seven top-flight games, having suffered five losses in the process. A woeful defensive record has played a major part in their perilous position in the top-flight table, as they have conceded at least two goals in five of their last seven league outings.
Their results on home soil have not been great of late, as they have claimed just one
win in five outings at Villa Park in the Premier League.
Their Midlands rivals may be struggling at the wrong end of the table, but it’s a different story at Wolves. The visitors are sixth place in the table, only behind fifth-place Manchester United on goal difference. That fifth-place is all-important as it will mean qualification for next seasons Champions League.
Wolves are in strong form heading into this derby match, as they are unbeaten in their last seven games in the Premier League, having won four times in their last five matches in the top-flight. Their recent defensive displays have been key to the good recent results, as they have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven league matches.
Villa are expected to be without Tom Heaton, Wesley and Bjorn Engels through injury, while Danny Drinkwater and Frederic Guilbert are also fitness doubts. The visitors have no reported injury problems or suspensions.
