AC Milan v Inter

On Saturday night, one of the biggest games traditionally on the Italian football calendar takes place, as AC Milan host arch-rivals Inter at the San Siro in the Derby della Madonnina.

AC Milan bounced back from an opening weekend 1-0 defeat against Udinese to beat Brescia and Verona by the same scoreline. The victories mean that the Rossoneri have won six of their last seven matches in Serie A. A visit of their in-form neighbours certainly will test that stellar recent record.

Milan’s recent home results have played a big part in their good form in Serie, as the home side are unbeaten in five league matches at the San Siro, having recorded four straight wins. Ironically, the last team to beat Milan on home soil was Inter back in March, when the Nerazzurri recorded a 3-2 victory.

Inter have made a solid start to life under new head coach Antonio Conte, winning all three of their Serie A matches this season. A 1-0 win over Udinese last time out in Serie A means that Inter have won five of their last six league games, including four straight matches.

Their stellar start to the league campaign has seen Conte’s side rise to the top of the table. However, Milan should offer the visitors a tougher challenge than their previous opponents.

Although this game is technically at Inter’s stadium too, the Nerazzurri are the designated visitors. Their recent away form has been patchy in Serie A, but they have won four of their previous six outings on their travels, including that win against Milan.

Neither team has too many issues when it comes to absentees for this clash. Full-back Davide Calabria is suspended, while Mattia Caldara is likely to miss out through injury. Inter have no reported injuries heading into the big game.

Match Prediction

This could be a close game. Milan are in good form and look confident. However, Inter seem to have a newfound belief under Antonio Conte and I can see the Nerazzurri recording a victory in a high-scoring clash.
