Villarreal v Atletico Madrid
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Sunday evening, Villarreal and Atletico Madrid clash at the Estadio de la Ceramica, as both sides try to secure crucial La Liga points.
Villarreal are currently sixth-place in La Liga, occupying the final European spot. However, the Yellow Submarine are just a point clear of seventh-place Girona, who are in good form.
The home sides form has dipped in recent games, as Javi Calleja’s side have won just two of their last seven league games, suffering four defeats in the process. However, one of those wins was last time out when they recorded a 2-0 victory over struggling Las Palmas.
Villarreal’s usual strong home form has also dipped in La Liga, as the home side have won just three of their last eight home games in the league, losing four times in the process.
Atletico Madrid are now eight points behind league leaders Barcelona. Last time out in La Liga, Diego Simeone’s team recorded a comfortable 3-0 home win over Celta Vigo.
The victory means that the men from the capital have now won seven out of their last eight La Liga games, with a crucial 1-0 defeat at Barcelona their only blip.
Atletico have a good away record in La Liga, winning seven of their last nine games on their travels in the Spanish top-flight. The visitor’s recent away games in La Liga have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six games on the road in La Liga.
Villarreal are expected to be without Bruno Soriano, Denis Cheryshev, Javi Fuego, Andres Fernandez and Ruben Semedo due to injury. Atletico’s only likely absentee is centre-back, Stefan Savic.
