Valencia v Atletico Madrid
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Friday night, Valencia host Atletico Madrid at the Mestalla in one of the biggest games in the top-flight of Spanish football this weekend.
Valencia are still very much in the hunt for a place in next year’s Champions League. However, a recent run of inconsistent form in La Liga has rather hampered Los Ches’ chances of sealing a top-four finish. They are now just two points behind the visitors who occupy the last Champions League berth.
A 3-0 defeat at surprise-package Getafe last time our means that Albert Celades’ team have won two and lost two of their last four games in the Spanish top-flight.
However, the reason for their mixed recent results is that Los Ches are poor away from home. At the Mestalla, it is a different story in the Spanish top-flight. The home side is unbeaten in 13 home matches in La Liga, having won three straight home matches in the Spanish top-flight, including a famous 2-0 win over Barcelona.
Atletico are hanging on to fourth spot for dear life at the moment. They have a number of teams breathing down their neck in the pursuit of a Champions League spot for next season.
Diego Simeone’s team have been in poor form of late in La Liga. However, last time out they ended a three-game winless run in the Spanish top-flight by recording a narrow 1-0 win at home to Granada.
Los Rojiblancos have suffered two straight away defeats in the Spanish top-flight, having recorded just one win in eight matches on their travels in La Liga.
Valencia are without the suspended Ferran Torres and Alessandro Florenzi. Meanwhile, Kevin Gameiro, Manu Vallejo, Cristiano Piccini and Ezequiel Garay could all miss out due to injury.
Atletico have some big likely absentees due to injury, including Diego Costa, Joao Felix, Alvaro Morata, Kieran Trippier, Jose Gimenez and Santiago Arias.
