The USA put an end to England's Women's World Cup campaign as they came out 2-1 winners in the semi-final!

England took on the USA in the Women's World Cup semi-final on Tuesday night. The Lionesses went into it the underdogs but we're full of confidence after a good win against Norway last week.

In the other semi-final, Holland was taking on Sweden. This was definitely the lesser anticipated of the two games, with England and the USA being the best teams in the competition.

England vs the USA

The USA got off to a great start scoring in the 10th minute through Press. A header at the back post for England to concede their first goal since the first game. Ellen White though got an equaliser nine minutes later, putting the ball in the top corner from ten yards out. This was her sixth goal and put her top scorer in the competition.

Alex Morgan though stepped up and restored the USA's lead on the 31st minute. She guided in a cross with her head into the top corner. England kept pressing though and nearly made it count in the second half. White thought she had he second of the game but VAR showed she was half a boot offside.

England then had another golden opportunity as White was brought down in the box. Up stepped Steph Houghton but the captain couldn't convert and the keeper made an easy save. Things went from bad to worse as Millie Bright was sent off minutes later for a second yellow card. The full-time whistle went not long after and the USA were in their third final in three competitions.

Holland vs Sweden

Sweden started the game the far better of the two teams. Thye had a few good chances in the first half but the Dutch goalkeeper made some brilliant saves. It was because of these saves that Holland was still in the game at halftime.

In the second half, Holland grew into the game but their keeper pulled off another brilliant save. A shot that looked destined for the bottom corner somehow tipped onto the post. Holland then had their first real chance of the game. A corner played towards the back post that was headed towards goal but tipped onto the crossbar.

The game went to extra-time and it looked like Sweden were going to regret them missed chances. Holland looked the fitter of the two sides with 30 minutes to play. Groenen made it count in the 99th minute. A fantastic finish into the bottom corner that this time couldn't be saved. Sweden had no reply and the game finished 1-0.
Women's World Cup odds

The USA are now the heavy favourites for the World Cup. They have been to the final four times, winning it three times. Two of these came in the last two competitions. Holland, on the other hand, has never gotten this far in their history. The USA with its quality and experience should have enough to beat them. Bet365 have them priced at 4/9 to win it in 90 minutes, with Holland at 7/1.

In the other remaining game, England takes on Sweden in the third/fourth place play-off. England is the favourites for this and is at 4/9 on Bet365. Sweden is priced at 4/1 to beat Phil Neville's side.
