Tottenham v Aston Villa – Betting & Match Preview

In-form Tottenham host Championship Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon in the third round of the FA Cup.

The home side recorded a massive 2-0 win over title rivals Chelsea in their last game, with England international Dele Alli scoring a brace. The win moved the side from north London up to third in the top-flight table. Alli has now scored six goals in his last three appearances.

The win means that Mauricio Pochettino’s team have now recorded five successive victories in all competitions.

Spurs have also won their last six games on home soil and scored at least two goals in each of those victories. The north London side have a good home record against the Villans having recorded five wins in their last six meetings. The stats bode well for a Spurs win.

Aston Villa’s recent form in the Championship has been inconsistent of late, as Steve Bruce’s side currently sit 12th in the table and seven points off the play-off spots. Last time out the Villans suffered a 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City.

Villa have won just two of their last 14 away games in all competitions. The Villans recent away games have been low-scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in their last six away games.

Team News

Spurs only injury problem is Argentinian playmaker Erik Lamela, who is a fitness doubt with a hip injury. Spurs boss Pochettino may decide to rotate his squad with the likes of Ben Davies, Moussa Sissoko, Heung Min-son and Kieran Trippier all likely to start the game.

Villa are without strikers Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Kodija, who are both on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations. Goalkeeper Jed Steer is expected to be joined on the sidelines through injury by defenders Micah Richards and Ritchie De Laet.

Match Prediction

Tottenham may name a weakened team, but whatever team they field they should be strong enough to record a comfortable win over the travel-sick Villans.
