Stuttgart v Dortmund

On Friday night, Dortmund head to Stuttgart in the Bundesliga looking to get back to winning ways in the German top-flight.

Stuttgart have started their Bundesliga campaign in highly inconsistent form. The home side are currently 12th in the German top-flight table, having picked up 13 points from their first 11 league games of the season.

Last time out Hannes Wolf’s side lost 3-1 at Hamburg, a result that epitomised Stuttgart on their travels this season. However, Wolf’s side have proven a very different proposition on home soil of late in the Bundesliga, winning four of their last five games at home in the German top-flight.

A key to that recent good run of form at the Mercedes Benz Arena is an improved defensive resolve, as Stuttgart have now kept clean sheets in four of their last five league games.

Following a stellar start to the campaign, Dortmund’s form has stalled alarmingly of late and they have slipped to third in the table. In fact, Peter Bosz’ team have lost three of their last four games, including last time out against arch-rivals Bayern Munich.

Dortmund’s recent poor results have come hand-in-hand with defensive problems, as BVB have conceded at least two goals in their last four outings in the German top-flight.

However, at the other end of the pitch, BVB have actually been red hot in attack, as they have now scored two or more goals in seven of their last eight Bundesliga outings.

Team News

Stuttgart could be without a number of players due to injury for this clash. Carlos Mane, Holger Badstuber, Christian Gentner, Alexander Meyer, Anastasios Donis, Marcin Kaminski, Carlos Mane, Matthias Zimmermann could all miss out through injury, while Dzenis Burnic is suspended.

Dortmund have problems of their own, with Erik Durm Alexander Isak, Lukasz Piszczek, Sebastian Rode and Marco Reus set to miss out through injury.

Match Prediction

Stuttgart have a good recent home record, while Dortmund have a poor recent record in the Bundesliga. However, Dortmund have been prolific of late and I can see them ending Stuttgart’s recent good defensive record in a high-scoring win.
