England take on the Czech Republic and Bulgaria in Euro 2020 qualifiers and Southgate has dropped some big names!
The second international break of the season is amongst us which means a new England squad. Since the start of this season, a lot of England players have been in great form. However some others, not so much!
A lot of those promising players have come from Chelsea. Since their transfer ban they have been forced to play the youth, and it’s worked. Tammy Abraham is joint top scorer with eight goals and his Chelsea team mates Mount and Tomori have also been in great form.
This has led to them being included in the squad along with other youngsters such as Rice, Maddison and Sancho. Surprising selections in the squad include Tyrone Mings, Callum Wilson and Fabian Delph.

With a fair few new faces in the squad, this means someone has to miss out. The first of which Jesse Lingard. The Manchester United forward has been in poor form of late and has managed just one assist all season. He has been struggling for the whole of 2019 in reality and needs to rediscover his form for Euro 2020.
Another forward missing out is Dele Alli. He has made four appearances so far and hasn’t contributed at all. Like Lingard he is going through a tough time and this could be the wakeup call he needs. Alli’s ex-Spurs teammate Kyle Walker joins him on a list of players dropped. Walker has come under criticism of late for his performances at Man City. Many feel his best days are behind and it wont be long before Pep drops him for Cancelo anyway.
This new England squad has an exciting feel about it. Lots of young hungry players who have been playing good football. Whether they make it into the Euro 2020 squad next year is a different matter.
England are currently one of the favourites to win the trophy next summer after their World Cup campaign. They are priced at 9/2 on Betfred, with France the favourites at 7/2!
