Southampton v Liverpool
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Sunday afternoon, Southampton host Liverpool at St Marys in the Premier League, in a game that could be vital at both ends of the table.
Southampton heads into this game in the thick of the relegation battle, just two points clear of the drop zone in 15th place. The team from the south coast ended a 12-game winless run last time out by recording a 3-2 win at relegation rivals West Brom.
The win means that the Saints are now unbeaten in four league outings, having drawn their three previous games prior to the win against the Baggies. Both teams have now scored in the Saints last five top-flight games.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have a poor recent home record, failing to win in their last six league games on home soil, while both teams have scored in their last seven league outings at St Marys.
Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League table, trailing second-place Manchester United by five points and ahead of fourth-place Chelsea by just a point.
The Reds drew 2-2 with rivals for a Champions League spot Tottenham in their last Premier League outing. The game followed a familiar theme for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the top-flight of late, as there have been over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine league games.
The Merseysiders have lost just one of their last eight away games in the Premier League, while they have also scored two or more goals in seven of their last eight games on their travels in the league.
Southampton are set to be without striker Charlie Austin due to injury, while defender Sam McQueen is also a fitness doubt. Liverpool will be without full-back Nathaniel Clyne, while Ragnar Klavan, Adam Lallana and Joe Gomez are fitness doubts.
