Slovakia v Wales

On Thursday night, Slovakia and Wales go head-to-head in Group E of qualifying for next year’s European Championships.

Slovakia are currently second place in the group, a point behind leaders Croatia. With Hungary also on nine points, the race for qualification from Group E is still very much wide open.

Slovakia have enjoyed mixed fortunes in qualifying so far, winning three and losing two of their qualifiers. Last time out, the home side recorded what could be a vital 2-1 win against closest rivals Hungary. It was another high-scoring qualification game for Slovakia, as their last three matches have all produced over 2.5 goals.

The home side has struggled for wins on home soil in qualifying for the European Championships, as they have won just one of their last four home qualifiers. They have also failed to score in three of their last four home qualifiers too.

Wales’ qualification campaign could not have been any more inconsistent, as the Dragons have won two and drawn two games in Group E so far. Last time out, they ended a mini two-game losing run by recording a 2-1 home win over Azerbaijan. The win was much-needed, as it kept the visitors hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 alive.

However, a defeat in Slovakia could well prove a big blow to their qualification hopes. A defeat is very possible, as they have lost their last three away qualifiers. However, a victory would put them right in contention for qualification, so it is a vital game for Ryan Giggs’ team.

Slovakia have a clean bill of health heading into this clash.

Meanwhile, Wales have no injury worries, although Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale are slight doubts, but are expected to feature.

Match Prediction

This one is a difficult game to judge, as both teams have been inconsistent. This could be a tight game, ending in a draw.
