Sevilla v Real Betis

On Saturday night, Sevilla host Real Betis at the Sanchez Pizjuan, in a game that could be crucial in the battle for the European spots in La Liga.

Sevilla have hit their stride just at the right time, as the home side has now won four of their last five matches in the Spanish top-flight. The recent good league form has moved the fifth-placed home side to within a point of fourth place Getafe in the fight for the Champions League spots.

A 2-0 win at Real Valladolid last time out in La Liga means that Sevilla’s last four league games have produced under 2.5 goals.

Sevilla have an inconsistent recent home record in the Spanish top-flight of late, winning two, losing two and drawing one of their last five outings at the Sanchez Pizjuan. Despite that recent inconsistent home form, Joaquin Caparros’ team has scored at least two goals in five of their last six La Liga matches on home soil.

Real Betis have slipped down the table of late, after just one win in their last four league outings. The visitors are now six points behind their rivals in La Liga, but just three points adrift of sixth-place Valencia who occupy the last European spot.

A 2-1 home win over Villarreal last time out at least kept the visitors in contention for the European spots in La Liga.

Betis have a poor recent away record in La Liga, winning just two of their last seven away games in the Spanish top-flight. Their recent away matches in the Spanish top-flight have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four matches.

Sevilla look set to be without goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik, winger Nolito and defender Maximilian Wober due to injury.

Meanwhile the visitors only likely absentee is Francis Guerrero.

Match Prediction

Sevilla have hit a good run of form and I expect the home side to record a victory in a high scoring encounter in this clash.
