Schalke v Dortmund
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Sunday afternoon, Schalke host Dortmund at the Veltins Arena in a game that could be crucial in deciding the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga this season.
Schalke have maintained a good level of consistency this season. Domenico Tedesco’s side currently sit second in the table, just a point above the visitors, though. There are also a number of other teams still in contention for the top-four spots, so the home side can afford to slip-up too many times for the rest of the campaign.
Tedesco’s side has been in good form of late. However, a 3-2 defeat against struggling Hamburg last time out ended a six-game winning run in the German top-flight. The game also ended a run of five straight clean sheets in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund are currently hot on the heels of the home side and head into this game on the back of a 3-0 win over Stuttgart. BVB have been in decent form under former Koln boss Peter Stoger and have lost just one of their last 14 Bundesliga games, which was against league leaders Bayern Munich.
The aforementioned game against Bayern also ended a six-game unbeaten run away from home in the Bundesliga for the visitors. The game also saw BVB fail to score in the Bundesliga on their travels for the first time in 12 outings.
The last four meetings between these two teams have ended all square, which could be an omen for this clash.
Schalke’s only likely absentee is full-back Abdul Rahman Baba due to injury. Meanwhile, Dortmund could be without Erik Durm, Sebastian Rode, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Raphael Guerreiro due to injury.
