Red Star 2 – 0 Liverpool

Last night in the Champions League there were some huge matches, many of them didn't go how fans would have expected. One which stands out above the rest was the meetup between Red Star Belgrade and Liverpool.

When these two met in the first game of the group, Liverpool made easy work of the Serbian side as they thrashed them 4-0 at Anfield. However, when Liverpool travelled to Belgrade, Red Star would collect all three points. Two goals in quick succession from Milan Pavkov would be the only decisive moments of the match. Their talisman headed in from a corner and then seven minutes later scored a screamer past Alisson. After the game, Klopp was questioned ‘What went wrong?' he cleverly replied ‘I only have ten fingers.'

This is the first time a Serbian side has ever won in the Champions League and it only took sixteen attempts. Not to discredit Red Stars victory, however, a huge factor to Liverpool's loss was the environment which the match was played in. There's a video of the tunnel to the pitch and it is intimidating, to say the least.  Football matches in Eastern Europe come across a lot more hostile than an average Premier League fixture. The fans have a lot more… ‘passion' and the twelfth player (Red Star Fans) made a huge impact.

The result in Belgrade mixed with the draw between PSG & Napoli has just made Group C the most competitive in the competition. At this point no one is safe and Liverpool still have to play PSG away and Napoli at home. It is about to get exciting and if Red Star can replicate their performance last night verse Napoli, they too are in a chance to advance to the Knock Out Stage. We expect Napoli & PSG to battle through to the Last 16, they are both at 4/9 currently. Click Here to bet now.
