Portugal v The Netherlands
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Sunday night, Portugal and the Netherlands go head-to-head in Porto in the Nations League final. Both teams will be confident of becoming the first winners of the augural competition.
Portugal booked their place in the final by winning their semi-final with Switzerland 3-1 courtesy of a hat-trick from Cristiano Ronaldo. The win ended a run of four straight draws for the Selecao.
Their recent matches have been relatively low-scoring affairs prior to the win over the Swiss, as four of their previous five matches had produced under 2.5 goals.
Fernando Santos’ side are now five games unbeaten in the Nations League, having recorded three wins and two draws. Both teams have scored in three of their last four games in the competition.
Portugal have a decent recent record against the Netherlands, as they have lost just one of the last six meetings between the two teams. However, that defeat was the last time the two met in March of last year.
The Netherlands needed extra-time to see-off England 3-1 in their semi-final. Goals from Matthijs de Ligt and Quincy Promes coupled with an own goal from Kyle Walker was enough to put Ronald Koeman’s side through to the final.
Despite the win, the Netherlands have a mixed record in the Nations League, as they have now won two, drawn two and lost one of their games in the competition in 90 minutes. Their games in the competition have been high-scoring, though, with four of their five games producing over 2.5 goals in 90 minutes, and the other in extra-time.
Neither team have any reported injuries from the semi-final clashes. After semi-final victories, both teams may choose to name unchanged teams.
However, Portuguese wonderkid Joao Felix struggled on his international debut, so could be demoted to the bench.
