Roma’s, Nicolò Zaniolo
First discovered by Fiorentina, Nicolò Zaniolo turned out to be a fine product of their youth academy. At the time, however, they may not have recognised the midfielder's potential and in 2016 he got released from his boyhood club during the season.
Virtus Entella were next to employ Zaniolo to feature in their B team and he remained there until moving clubs at the end of the campaign. The transfer to Inter Milan is where the starlet's career began peaking. At the age of eighteen, he finished as top scorer for Inter in the Primavera with 13 goals. Not bad at all for a central-midfielder who only cost as little as £1.6m.
Nicolò Zaniolo potentially had a long future with Inter but the club desired the services of Belgian maestro, Radja Nainggolan. Along with a fee, Inter traded both Santon and Zaniolo to Roma in exchange for Nainggolan in the summer of 2018. On the 19th of September Zaniolo was finally awarded his first professional debut. The catch was that it was facing the European Champions, Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. Roma lost 3-0 and a week later Nicolo capped his first Serie A appearance.
Since Zaniolo made his debut he has been a frequent feature in Roma's squad, more often warming the bench up until recent weeks. Zaniolo's exceptional performance verse Sassulo has earned him some well-deserved recognition. Gaffer, Eusebio Di Francesco praised his midfielder following his first professional goal which was a spectacular sight. Roma held a two-goal lead when the ball was played through to Zaniolo on the wing. He outpaced the defender before demonstrating a silky bit of skill to cut in. The angle was there for the finish but instead, he dummied the shot which deceived most of the audience in the Stadio Olympico. The fake effort led to both defender and goalkeeper collapsing and he gently lifted the ball over them as it nested in the Sasssulo goal.
To see a player of Zaniolo's age playing with that much confidence, it is hard to see past him becoming a great player. If a chance is there to shoot there won't be any hesitation which will ensure goals for the nineteen-year-old. I think Roma have found a gem here and their left-footed playmaker will be one to watch for years to come.
