Napoli v Inter

On Sunday night, Napoli host Inter at the Stadio San Paolo, in a game that could prove vital in the visitor’s efforts to clinch a Champions League spot in Serie A.

Napoli will kick-off this game in second place, ten points clear of the third-place visitors. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s team are also 13 points behind league leaders Juventus. The team from Naples once again failed to overtake the Bianconeri this season.

After a slightly inconsistent run of form in the league, Napoli have now won their last three games in the Italian top-flight, scoring at least two goals in all three victories. Last time out the home side recorded a 2-1 win over SPAL.

Napoli’s recent home record in Serie A has been the definition of inconsistent, as they have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six league outings. Their recent home games in the league have offered great value for money when it comes to goals, as four of their last five home matches on home soil have produced over 2.5 goals.

Inter are currently four points clear of fifth-place arch-rivals AC Milan in the race for the Champions League spots heading into this penultimate league encounter. A win would confirm the Nerazzurri’s place in the Champions League for next season.

The Nerazzurri head into this clash on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in Serie A. However, three of their last four league matches have finished in draws. A 2-0 win over Chievo last time out ended a run of three straight draws.

Inter are unbeaten in four away games in Serie A, having recorded three wins and a draw. The visitors have been relatively prolific on their travels in the Italian top-flight of late, scoring at least two goals in three of their last four away matches.

Napoli are expected to be without a number of players through injury, including Adam Ounas, Nikola Maksimovic, Amadou Diawara and Vlad Chiriches.

Meanwhile, Inter are likely to be without Sime Vrsaljko and Stefan de Vrij through injury.

Match Prediction

Napoli have been on a good run of form of late in Serie A. However, Inter are hard to beat and I expect this game to end all square.
