Manchester United v Leicester
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
The Premier League returns on Friday night, as Manchester United host Leicester at Old Trafford in the opening game of season 2018/19.
Manchester United will be looking to kick-off their campaign in a positive fashion after finishing as runners-up to Manchester City last season. The Red Devils have endured a poor pre-season campaign.
However, an opening game victory would lift spirits at the club. The men from Manchester will be confident of a positive result in this game, especially as they suffered just two home defeats in their last 36 Premier League games on home soil.
In fact, Jose Mourinho’s team have won seven of their last eight league games at Old Trafford, while also scoring at least two goals in six of their last eight Premier League games on home soil.
Leicester have enjoyed a mixed pre-season campaign. The Foxes ended last season poorly, winning just one of their last seven league outings while suffering five defeats in the process.
Poor defensive displays were a big factor in that poor run of form, as the side from the Midlands conceded at least two goals in all five of those aforementioned defeats.
The visitors away form does not bode well for a victory at Old Trafford, as the Foxes have won just two of their last ten away games. Claude Puel’s side has also suffered defeat in seven of their last ten away games.
United look set to be without Nemanja Matic, Antonio Valencia, Diogo Dalot and Marcos Rojo due to injury. World Cup participants Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini are also unlikely to start this game.
Leicester continues to be without midfielder Matty James through injury, while Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison and Jonny Evans are also fitness doubts. England internationals Harry Maguire and Jamie Vardy will be rested. New signing Rachid Ghezzal could make his debut.
