Manchester United v CSKA Moscow
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
Barring a mathematical miracle, United go into this game knowing that their Champions League campaign will go into the new year. The home side were poor in their last game in the competition and FC Basel took full advantage with a late winner.
The visitors though know that they must better the result of FC Basel to progress into the next stage. United just need to avoid a heavy defeat to top the group, potentially avoiding a more difficult draw in the last 16.
The reverse fixture turned into a very comfortable night for the reds and following some inconsistency, they have looked back to their best at times in recent matches.
Both sides recorded important wins at the weekend, United picked up their best result of the season with a 3-1 over Arsenal at the Emirates. CSKA put 6 past Tosno in the Russian Premier League.
Jose Mourinho may choose to rest Romelu Lukaku and bring in Zlatan Ibrahimovic for his first start in European competition since his injury in the Europa League Quarter Final v Anderlecht. Jesse Lingard is currently in great form and could well be key to United’s chances again.
Vitinho is the top scorer for CSKA with 8 goals in all competitions. He will be integral for them again. The Russian Goalkeeper, Igor Akinfeev, could prove to be just as important.
The United manager has chosen to rest their first choice Goalkeeper, David Gea, for most European matches this season and could do that again. Facing Sergio Romero might prove to be less of a formidable opponent for the Russians.
