Manchester United v Chelsea

In arguably the biggest game of the 2019/20 Premier League opening weekend, Manchester United host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United finished in sixth place last season after some poor results and bad performances in defence specifically. The Red Devils have attempted to address their defensive issues by bringing in full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka and centre-back Harry Maguire. Young Welsh winger Daniel James has also arrived from Swansea to bolster their attacking ranks.

The Red Devils finished last season with a five-game winless run in the Premier League, suffering three defeats in the process. However, their pre-season form has been promising.

Rather unusually United finished last season with a poor run of form on home soil. They failed to win in their last three league games, suffering two defeats in the process. United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to turn Old Trafford into a fortress once more.

It has been all change at Chelsea this summer. Frank Lampard has replaced Maurizio Sarri as head coach, while star former Eden Hazard has made a long-anticipated move to Real Madrid.

A two-window transfer ban means that Lampard will have to work with the players currently on the club’s books. That may mean that the Blues may give a chance to some of their talented youngsters.

The Blues have enjoyed a strong pre-season campaign, having ended last season in inconsistent form. One negative for Chelsea towards the end of last season was their away record, as they won just once in their final five league games on their travels.

New signings Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire are likely to make their competitive debuts for United, while Daniel James may start the game on the substitutes bench. Centre-back Eric Bailly is ruled out through injury, while midfielder Paul Pogba is a fitness doubt.

Chelsea heads into this clash without the services of Antonio Rudiger, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek due to injury. Willian and N’Golo Kante are fitness doubts, but should still feature.

Match Prediction

This one is hard to predict with so many changes at both clubs. However, I believe this clash is likely to finish in a low-scoring draw.
