Manchester City v Wolves

On Monday night, reigning champions Manchester City host Wolves at the Etihad Stadium, as the Citizens attempt to stay in the race for the Premier League title.

Second place Manchester City have closed the gap on leaders Liverpool to four points in the race for the Premier League title. However, with The Merseysiders playing on Saturday, the lead could once again be seven points with a Reds victory by the time this game kicks off.

City now seem to be over the festive wobble that saw them suffer consecutive league defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester. The Citizens have now won two straight league games against Southampton and of Liverpool to get their season back on track.

The Citizens have maintained a stellar home record this season, as Pep Guardiola’s side have won 11 of their last 12 Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium. The Citizens have also been prolific in those aforementioned 12 league games, scoring at least two goals in each outing.

Wolves head into this game on the back of beating league leaders Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup. Despite the FA Cup win, the visitors have a poor recent record in the league, winning just once in their last four games.

The side from the Midlands are ninth in the table, but if results go their way in gameweek 22 they could finish up seventh in the top-flight table.

Wolves have been inconsistent on their travels in the top-flight this season. However, the visitors are unbeaten in three away games in the Premier League, recording two wins and a draw.

Team News

Manchester City’s only likely absentee is French international full-back Benjamin Mendy, who is set to return to action in a few weeks’ time. Wolves have no reported injuries heading into this clash.

Match Prediction

This game is a vital one for City and I can see the home recording a win in a high scoring encounter.
