Manchester City v Watford

On Saturday evening, Manchester City and Watford clash at Wembley in the FA Cup final, as City look to record an unprecedented domestic treble.

Manchester City head into this clash on the back of retaining their Premier League crown on Sunday. Having claimed the League Cup earlier in the season, Pep Guardiola’s side will become the first team ever to do a clean sweep of all domestic trophies in English football.

The Citizens have been in excellent form of late, winning 15 of their last 16 games in all competitions. The men from Manchester also have a good recent record in the FA Cup, winning seven of their last eight matches in the competition.

Guardiola’s team have been prolific of late in the FA Cup, scoring at least two goals in four of their last five games. City recorded a 1-0 win over Brighton in the semi-final to book their final spot.

Watford have enjoyed a solid campaign so far. However, Javi Gracia’s side head into this clash on the back of just one win from their last six games in all competitions, having suffered four defeats in the process.

The Hornets booked their place in the final with a 3-2 extra-time victory over Wolves. Their league form has since fallen off in the league. The draw in normal time ended a four-game winning run for the Hornets in the FA Cup.

Watford suffered a 2-0 defeat against Everton back in 1984 in their only previous FA Cup final appearance. The Hornets will be hoping for a better result this time around.

Manchester City still have doubts over the fitness of Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho. Kevin De Bruyne may return to the starting line-up, while Leroy Sane will be hoping for a start.

Meanwhile, Watford are expected to be without young forward Domingos Quina. However, full-back Jose Holebas is available after seeing his final day red card overturned.

Match Prediction

There have been some big shocks in the FA Cup final down the years. However, City will be in high spirits following their title win and I expect Guardiola’s team to make history in a high-scoring game.
