Manchester City v Tottenham

On Saturday evening, Manchester City host Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium, in what promises to be the game of the Premier League weekend.

Manchester City opened their campaign the way they finished last season by winning, as they hammered West Ham 5-0 at the Olympic Stadium.

The victory means that City have now won their last 15 Premier League games. In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side has won 19 of their last 20 league games, which is a fantastic record for any team in any league.

The Citizens home record is also outstanding in recent seasons, as they have won 19 of their last 20 league games in the top-flight. Guardiola’s side is famed for their attacking football.

However, it has been their defensive record that has been the most impressive facet of recent home games, with five clean sheets in six league matches on home soil.

Tottenham are one of the most likely teams to challenge City and Liverpool this season. Mauricio Pochettino’s team started their league campaign with a 3-1 home win over Tottenham.

The win came as a relief, as the team from north London finished last season with a three-game winless run, as their Champions League run took attention away from their league campaign.

A major concern for the visitors last season was their away record, as Spurs suffered defeat in their final six league matches on their travels. A factor in those poor away results is a leaky defence, as Spurs have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven away games in the top-flight.

Manchester City still have doubts over the fitness of Benjamin Mendy, while Leroy Sane is a long-term injury casualty. Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho could return to the squad, but Guardiola may stick with Rodri who enjoyed a solid start to his City career.

Juan Forth and Heung-Min Son will miss out through suspension. Dele Alli will not feature due to injury, while Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies are also fitness doubts.

Match Prediction

Manchester City will be highly confident of seeing off the threat of Tottenham. The Citizens are likely to record a victory in a high-scoring encounter.
