Manchester City v Manchester United

The big game of the Premier League weekend is no doubt at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as Manchester City host Manchester United in the Manchester derby.

Manchester City are once again the team to beat in the top-flight, as the Citizens have won nine and drawn two of their first 11 league games this season.

A 6-1 win over Southampton last time out in the top-flight means that City are currently two points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool in second and third respectively.

City head into this derby match on the back of seven wins in eight league matches. Pep Guardiola’s side has also kept clean sheets in six of their last seven top-flight outings.

The Citizens have been formidable of late at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, winning their last seven games, while scoring at least two goals in each victory.

Manchester United have endured a mixed season so far in the Premier League. Jose Mourinho’s team are currently seventh place in the table after consecutive wins in the league over Everton and last time out Bournemouth.

In fact, the Red Devils are now four games unbeaten in the top-flight, having recorded three victories. All five of their league games have also produced over 2.5 goals.

The visitors have won just three of their last eight away games in the Premier League, but have also lost just one of their last five outings on their travels. United have also scored at least two goals in five of their last six away games in the top-flight.

Team News

City are without Belgian central midfielder Kevin De Bruyne through injury. Guardiola may decide to name an unchanged starting line-up from last time out against Southampton.

United still have doubts over the fitness of Romelu Lukaku, Diogo Dalot, Antonio Valencia and Marouane Fellaini.

Match Prediction

These are the sort of games that United boss Jose Mourinho loves, as it tends to bring the best out of him when it comes to tactical battles. However, I believe the Citizens will overcome the visitors to record a win in a high scoring clash.
