Manchester City v Liverpool

In the game of the Premier League weekend, Manchester City host potential title rivals Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium in the early kick-off.

The home side have kicked their Premier League campaign off with two wins and a draw. However, Pep Guardiola’s side have been unconvincing in their performances so far in the league. The Citizens needed a stoppage-time winner from Raheem Sterling to win 2-1 at Bournemouth last time out.

City may have been unconvincing so far this season, but Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in 11 Premier League games and have suffered defeat just once in their last 20 outings. The one defeat the Citizens suffered was against champions Chelsea.

The home side have also been prolific of late in the league, scoring two or more goals in seven of their last eight outings in the Premier League.

The Citizens are also 13 games unbeaten at the Etihad Stadium in the English top-flight, with that Chelsea defeat their last loss on home soil in the Premier League.

Liverpool have also started their campaign with two wins and a draw, but sit above City courtesy of a superior goal difference. A big reason for their superior goal difference was their 4-0 victory over Arsenal last time out.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now seven games unbeaten in the top-flight and have suffered just one defeat in their last 15 league games. Despite recent criticism of the Reds defence, the Merseysiders have kept six clean sheets in their last seven league games. That record faces a stiff test in this clash.

Team News

The home side are without winger Raheem Sterling through suspension, while centre-back Vincent Kompany is doubtful. German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is back in training following injury, but this game is likely to come too soon.

Liverpool will continue to be without midfielder Adam Lallana through injured, while full back Nathaniel Clyne is a doubt. Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho is fit again after injury, but may not feature in this clash.

Match Prediction

This game could be a highly entertaining encounter, as both teams have tremendous attacking players. It is very difficult to split these two teams, so I am going to sit on the fence and predict this game will end all square.
