Lazio v Sampdoria

On Saturday afternoon, Lazio face a potential test of their top-four credentials in Serie A when Sampdoria visit the Stadio Olimpico.

The home side has been in fantastic form of late in the Italian top-flight, winning their last ten matches in Serie A.  Last time out in Serie A, Simone Inzaghi’s team recorded a narrow 1-0 home win over Napoli.

The game ended a run of 12 straight Serie A games in which the home side had scored two or more goals. The fact that they have scored two or more goals in 12 of their last 13 league games is still impressive, though.

Inzaghi’s team have a strong recent home record in the Italian top-flight, as they are unbeaten in ten outings while recording five straight home wins. Once again, they have been prolific on home soil in Serie A of late, scoring at least two goals in seven of those ten recent unbeaten games.

Sampdoria head into this clash on the back of taking a possible four points from six in their first two league outings in 2020. Last time out in Serie A, Claudio Ranieri’s team recorded a comprehensive 5-1 home win over Brescia. Despite the recent win, Samp are still only five points above the relegation zone.

The visitors have been inconsistent on their travels of late in the Italian top-flight. However, a record of two away wins in their last 13 matches is certainly not a record to shout about. They have also suffered defeat in five of their last six meetings with Lazio.

Team News

Lazio could be without a number of players through injury, including Denis Vavro, Joaquin Correa, Adam Marusic and Jordan Lukaku.

Meanwhile, Senad Lulic and Djavan Anderson will miss out through suspension. Sampdoria look set to be without Gaston Ramirez, Edgar Barreto, Fabio Depaoli and Alex Ferrari.

Match Prediction

I cannot predict anything other than a home win, although Sampdoria’s form has improved of late, so it may not be a comfortable victory.
