Champions Juventus host Lazio at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday lunchtime in Serie A in what promises to be a fascinating encounter, with the visitors hoping to make up ground on the leaders.
Juventus remain top of the table, despite a 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina last time out in Serie A. Prior to that defeat, the Bianconeri had recorded four straight wins in the top-flight that saw them open up a big gap at the top of the table.
However, the champions are now only a point ahead of second-place Roma and could, in fact, relinquish top spot if they slip-up again this weekend.
Massimiliano Allegri’s team slipping up in this clash seems unlikely, though, as the Bianconeri have won their last 26 home games in the league. Impressively, the champions have also scored two or more goals in 13 of their last 14 league games on home soil.
Lazio head to Turin in good spirits, fourth in the table and just five points behind the home side. Simone Inzaghi’s side have won four of their previous five outings in the Italian top-flight, with the exception a 3-0 defeat at Inter.
The Biancazzurri have lost just twice in their last ten away games in the league, with both defeats coming in Milan, against AC and Inter respectively. That defeat against Inter was in Lazio’s last away game. Previously they had gone five games unbeaten on their travels in the Italian top-flight.
The reigning champions are without full-back Alex Sandro and midfielder Stefano Sturaro through suspension, while Dani Alves and youngster Federico Mattiello are also expected to miss out through injury.
The visitor’s only absentee is likely to be Bosnia and Herzegovina midfielder Senad Lulic, who will miss out through suspension.
