Fiorentina v Napoli

On Saturday night, Fiorentina host Napoli at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, as both teams look to start the new Serie A campaign with a victory.

Fiorentina endured a nightmare campaign last season, finishing just three points clear of the relegation zone. The fact that the Viola ended the season with a 14-game winless run in the Italian top-flight played a big role in the home sides poor campaign.

Incredibly, Fiorentina are on a run of just one home win in 15 Serie A matches at the Artemio Franchi, including failing to win on home soil in 11 league games.

The Viola have also failed to score in their last five home games in the Italian top-flight, which does not bode well facing Saturday’s opponents.

The home side has added Erick Pulgar, Kevin Prince-Boateng and Tofol Montiel to their squad in an effort to avoid a repeat of last season.

Napoli finished in their now annual runners-up spot to champions Juventus once again last season. The Neapolitan’s finished ten points clear of the chasing pack, but this season they will look to close the gap on the Bianconeri at the top of the table.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team finished the season with a 3-2 defeat at Bologna after four straight wins in Serie A. The visitors away form towards the end of the Serie A campaign was inconsistent, as they won three and lost two of their last five away matches in the Italian top-flight.

Napoli’s biggest purchase of the summer was highly-rated centre-back Konstantinos Manolas, who joined from Roma.

Neither team has any reported injuries ahead of this big season opener. Fiorentina could give debuts to the likes of Erick Pulgar and Kevin Prince Boateng, while Napoli’s big debutant is likely to be Konstantinos Manolas.

Match Prediction

Napoli have immense quality in their squad and should have too much for a Fiorentina team very much in need of a good start to the new campaign.
