Espanyol v Barcelona
BETTING & MATCH PREVIEW
On Saturday night, Espanyol host Barcelona at the RCDE Stadium in La Liga, as the home side attempt to get the better of their city rivals.
Espanyol made a promising start to their La Liga campaign and are currently seventh place in the table, just a point outside the European spots in the Spanish top-flight.
Despite their good start to the season, Espanyol’s form has dipped badly in the last few weeks, as they have now suffered three straight defeats in the Spanish top-flight. Last time out, Rubi’s side suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Getafe.
Espanyol have been in good form of late on home soil in La Liga. In fact, until a 3-1 defeat against Girona in their last league game on home soil, Espanyol had recorded six straight home wins in La Liga.
Barcelona are once again top of La Liga but are only leading second place Sevilla by a point. The Catalan giants’ recent form in the Spanish top-flight has not been terribly consistent, but they have won four of their last six league matches.
Last time out in the Spanish top-flight, Ernesto Valverde’s side recorded a 2-0 home win over Villarreal.
The Blaugrana have at least remained relatively prolific of late in La Liga, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six games in the Spanish top-flight.
The champions have been inconsistent of late on their travels in La Liga, winning just one of their last four away matches. Both teams have also scored in Barcelona’s last five away games in the Spanish top-flight.
Espanyol have a number of likely absentees through injury, including Sergio Garcia, Naldo and Marc Roca.
However, Barcelona have a very long list of players missing out through injuries, with Luis Suarez, Arthur, Samuel Umtiti, Rafinha, Thomas Vermaelen and Sergi Roberto all expected to miss out.
