Eintracht Frankfurt v Hoffenheim

On Sunday afternoon, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim go head-to-head at the Commerzbank-Arena, as both teams look to once again challenge for the European spots in the Bundesliga.

Eintracht Frankfurt finished seventh-place in the Bundesliga last season, after a terrible end of season run in the German top-flight. The home side failed to win in their last six Bundesliga games, suffering four defeats in the process, including their last three league matches of the campaign.

The Frankfurt squad simply did not have the resources to cope with both a challenge for a European place and competing in the Europa League. They did make the semi-final stages of Europe’s secondary competition, though.

Even their usual strong league record at the Commerzbank-Arena dipped, as they failed to win in their last three home games, suffering two defeats in the process.

The home side has suffered the loss of strikers Sebastian Haller and Luka Jovic this summer. Serbian striker Dejan Joveljic has arrived to attempt to fill the boots of compatriot Jovic.

Hoffenheim fell out of the European picture in the last few weeks of last season to finish ninth place in the table. The visitors failed to win any of their last four league games, suffering three defeats in the process.

The Hoffenheim defence fell to pieces in the final few weeks of the campaign, conceding at least two goals in four of their last five league matches.

The visitors finished the campaign with a poor away record too, winning just two of their last eight matches on their travels in the Bundesliga.

Hoffenheim have lost the services of highly-rated head coach Julian Nagelsmann to RB Leipzig. His replacement is former FC Twente boss Alfred Schreuder.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s only likely absentee is midfielder Djibril Sow, who looks set to miss out through injury. Hoffenheim are without Christoph Baumgartner due to suspension, while Leonardo Bittencourt, Andrej Kramaric and Sargis Adamyan look likely to miss out due to injury.

Match Prediction

Both teams have lost key figures in the summer. This could be a close game, likely resulting in a low-scoring draw.
