Chelsea Hit For Six At The Etihad

Chelsea on the receiving end of a thrashing for the second time in as many weeks!

Man City ran riot at The Etihad on Sunday as Sergio Aguero netted three goals for the second in the space of a week. The Argentines 3rd hat-trick of the season now sits him top of the table for the most Premier League hat-tricks.

The game started out with Chelsea employing a high press. They tried to match City by playing attacking football straight from the off. The visitors nearly got off to a perfect start but a slightly over-weighted pass fell just ahead of Higuain. However this approach didn't work well for long. A lapse of concentration from Marcos Alonso and a good finish from Sterling set City on their way after just four minutes.

If Chelsea thought they couldn’t have got off to a worse start conceding after just four minutes then how wrong they were. It took the home side just 25 minutes to ensure all three points were staying in Manchester. City were 4-0 up and probably should have been more! In fairness to Chelsea they never gave up. They kept up the intensity to try and give the visiting fans something to smile about. Halftime came around and the score was the same. That was probably the best moment for Chelsea fans as they were guaranteed 15 minutes of not watching they side get torn apart.

The second half resumed and Man City got off to another quick start going 5-0 through a Sergio Aguero penalty. The goal happened to be his third of the afternoon. Sterling then went on to get his second of the day and the game finished 6-0 to the home team.

As the full time whistle sounded, Manchester City made sure that it was a day to forget for the travelling fans. ‘One step beyond’ was played over the PA system which may have been one step too far by the hosts. The song is what can usually be heard at Stamford Bridge come 90 minutes, which was clearly not to the amusement of Chelsea.

How The Table Looks

The win has now put Man City back at the top of the Premier League, but only on goal difference, with Liverpool having a game in hand. Bet365 now have Man City as title favourites at odds of 8/11 with Liverpool just behind at 6/5. Chelsea have now dropped down two places with Manchester United and Arsenal leap frogging them.

Chelsea will seriously need to find some form if they want to be playing Champions League football next year. Bet365 have them at 5/4 and Man United at EVS, meaning the end of the season its going to be very interesting for all of the top 6 clubs.
