Barcelona v Valencia

On Saturday night, Barcelona host Valencia at the Nou Camp, as the reigning champions look to get back to winning ways.

Barcelona has made an inconsistent start to the defence of their La Liga crown. The Catalan giants kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Athletic Bilbao before hammering Real Betis 5-0 and drawing 2-2 against Osasuna last time out.

In fact, Barcelona could not have enjoyed a more inconsistent run of form in the Spanish top-flight of late, as they have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six matches in La Liga. Despite their inconsistency of late, Ernesto Valverde’s team have scored at least two goals in four of their last five league matches.

Barcelona is unbeaten in 13 La Liga games at the Nou Camp, recording 12 wins in the process. The Catalan giants have also been lethal in front of goal on home soil, scoring at least twice in 14 of their last 16 league games.

Valencia has endured a similarly inconsistent start to their La Liga campaign, picking up four points from as many games. Last time out, the visitors recorded their first league win of the season, recording a 2-0 victory over Real Mallorca. The victory means that Los Ches have won four of their last six La Liga outings.

Marcelino’s side has suffered mixed fortunes on their travels in La Liga too, winning three and losing three of their last six league matches on their travels.

Barcelona still have some major injury worries, with the possibility that Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo could all once again miss out through injury.

Valencia’s list of likely absentees is shorter with Carlos Soler and Cristiano Piccini looking set to miss out due to injury.

Match Prediction

Even with the likelihood that Barcelona will be missing key players, I expect the Catalan giants to record a victory in a high-scoring clash.
