Atalanta v Sassuolo

On Sunday night, Atalanta have a chance to seal their spot in the Champions League for next season, as they welcome Sassuolo for their final Serie A game of the campaign.

Atalanta have enjoyed a fantastic campaign in the Italian top-flight and are currently third in the Serie A table. They are currently level on points with fourth place Inter and just a point clear of AC Milan in fifth-place.

The scenario is simple for the home side, win and they will book their place in Europe’s elite competition for next season. A 1-1 draw at champions Juventus last time out means that Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are 12 games unbeaten in the Italian top-flight.

Atalanta also have a decent home record, as they are unbeaten in six home games in Serie A, having recorded four wins in the process.

Sassuolo have enjoyed another solid campaign in Serie A. The visitors head into the final game of the campaign in tenth place in the table, which is the highest position they can achieve this season.

The visitors have been hard to beat of late in Serie A, losing just once in eight league games. However, a goalless draw at home at against Roma last time out means that five of their last eight Serie A matches have ended in draws.

Sassuolo’s recent away form in Serie A has been poor, as the visitors have won just one of their last ten matches on their travels in the Italian top-flight. They have also kept just one clean sheet in eight away matches in Serie A.

Atalanta’s only likely absentee is centre-back Rafael Toloi, as the Brazilian is expected to miss out due to a tendon problem. For Sassuolo, Giangiacomo Magnani, Federico Peluso and Stefano Sensi look set to miss out due to injury.

Match Prediction

AC Milan head into this game as the form team and I expect the Rossoneri to record a victory in a low scoring clash. Whether the win will be enough for Champions League qualification will depend on the results in the other games.
