Atalanta v Roma

On Saturday night, Atalanta host Roma at the Gewiss Stadium, in a match that could have big implications on the fight for the Champions League spots in Serie A.

Atalanta are enjoying another productive season in the Italian top-flight. Not only are the team from Bergamo fourth place in the table, but they are also the top scorers in Serie A this season.

Despite their lofty position in the table, Atalanta’s recent league form has been slightly inconsistent. However, a 2-1 win at Fiorentina last time out in Serie A means that Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are unbeaten in three league matches.

The Nerazzurri have taken just a point from their last two home games in the Italian top-flight. In fact, they have won just three of their last seven league matches at the Gewiss Stadium.

This game is massive for Roma, who are currently fifth place in the table, three points behind the home team in the race for the coveted Champions League spots.

A poor recent run of league form has hampered the visitor’s chances of returning to the top-four. A 3-2 defeat at home to Bologna last time out means that the Giallorossi has lost four of their last six league outings, winning just once in the process.

Roma have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight matches in Serie A, with both teams also scoring in seven of those eight games.

Paulo Fonseca’s team have a mixed recent away record in the Italian top-flight but have won three of their last five matches on their travels in Serie A.

Team News

Atalanta’s only likely absentee is youngster Bosko Sutalo.

Roma meanwhile look set to be without Davide Zappacosta, Amadou Diawara and Nicolo Zaniolo through injury.

Match Prediction

Neither side has been in sparkling form of late. However, I believe the home side will just edge this potentially vital encounter.
